Strobe wiring question

Did all strobe manufacturers wire the strobe bulbs the same way? In other words - are all manufacturers red, white, and black wire on strobe bulbs the same function? Can I match wires from company to company?

Whelen power supply to Tomar flash tubes, Opticom power supply to Whelen strobes, etc.

I think one manufacturer swapped a couple of wire terminal positions on their power supplies, but I don't immediately recall the details. Now that you bring it up, I have never considered whether the tubes themselves are wired in different colors or only in different terminal positions.

I think for awhile Federal swapped out the black and white, but it was only in the amp connectors. Most strobe heads work the same. The only exception that I know of is the Federal signal "J" strobe series 20, 21, 22 were for the jet and the 30 for the streethawk lowers. They were a special 2 wire strobe.

I’m aware they work the same, I just trying to ensure red = red, black = black, and white = white across manufacturers so I don’t burn out a flash tube.

That one was used with what I am pretty sure was a Whelen Preemption supply and were color matched wiring. The supply was kind of a brick with black ends, probably about 4x4x8. I have seen that same housing used for motorcycle sirens if any of that helps
